Is everybody else enjoying this beautiful spring weather as much as we are? I sure hope so! It’s about time for some sunny warmth here in New York.

We have some equally great news we’d like to share with you on this beautiful day.

Saucey Sauces can now be found at more retail locations in New York! Here’s a quick rundown of the stores that are now stocking our lovely little bottles:

1. Lifthyme: 410 6th Avenue, New York, NY 10011
Full of natural ingredients, our all-natural sauces fit right in!

2. Harlem Shambles: 2141 Frederick Douglass Blvd, New York, NY 10026
The neighborhood butcher, pick up some delicious pork belly and a bottle of our sauce for a tasty pre-BBQ season grill out!

3. Brooklyn Natural: 49 Bogart St, Brooklyn, NY 11206
A new organic food shop is bringing Saucey Sauce to East Williamsburg!

As you can see, we’re truly trying to get our sauces into every nook and cranny of New York!

If you have a store in your neighborhood that you want to see carrying Saucey Sauce, please write us and let us know. We’ll do our best to get in touch with them and get on the shelves.

Happy Spring!

Dear Sauceheads,

Happy New Year! OK, so maybe the year isn’t so “new” anymore. Sure, all those New Year’s parties may have become happy (but fading) memories, but we’re still celebrating here at the Saucey Sauce Co. HQ.

Keep reading to find out why!

Our family is growing, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. I recently had the chance to chat with our new Saucey Saucier, Lisa, who is working hard to spread the word about Saucey Sauce and is even working on a few top secret projects. Well, not so secret after you read this post!

Let’s get to know Lisa!

Our newest Saucey Saucier, Lisa!

Q: How did you get involved with the Saucey Sauce Co.?

Lisa: About a year ago I was working in production at a print shop, as many designers do for experience. Toan came in one day to print brochures for The Saucey Sauce Co. We started chatting and I told her I was also a freelance graphic designer. She mentioned they wanted to redesign their logo, so I ended up designing the new logo. I continued to work with the company on a freelance basis on their website. As time went on, they had a need for someone to help out in sales. So I ended up doing sales for them on a part time basis too. In February I was offered a full-time role in the company, which I enthusiastically accepted!

Q: What is your role within the Saucey Sauce Co.?

Lisa: My title is Saucey Saucier, and I do Sales, Operations, Marketing and Design. I suppose I wear a few different hats. It’s been really great to be a part of all the different aspects of the company. As a creative I never really thought of myself in sales or business before, but it’s been really gratifying to take part in something I’m passionate about (I mean how great is it to sell something you already think is awesome). I’ve been with them since almost the beginning and I really stand behind the product, so I’m really enjoying helping it grow and succeed and being a part of it all!

Q: OK, let’s get down to business. What is your favorite way to use the sauce?

Lisa: The sauce is AMAZING as a marinade, but I have to admit I mostly use it as a dipping sauce since I’m not cooking as much these days. Spicy Garlic is definitely my favorite flavor, and I basically use it like a hot sauce. It’s really great on burgers and fries! I accidentally tried a mix of Spicy Garlic and Fresh Lemon and it was a game-changer. It might be my new favorite go-to!

Watch this space for more updates on Saucey Sauce, coming real soon. There’s a LOT of stuff planned for 2013, and the new team is working hard behind the scenes to get it all done! We’ll give you a hint. It may have something to do with the amazing new graphics on our website!

It’s certainly been a challenge getting through the past few days without any electricity (our precious, precious food is going to spoil!!), but we are hugely thankful that all our friends and family are safe.

If you need a break, please come by the Williams-Sonoma Artisan’s Market this Saturday to visit Saucey Sauce Co. plus other artisinal food makers. It’s on and it’s going to be a great time.

The market will take place from 10AM – 2PM this Saturday, November 3rd at 10 Columbus Circle, Suite 114.

Click on the image below for details. We hope to see you there – nothing gets rid of the post-hurricane blues (and electricity deprivation) like some good grub.

This past weekend, the fulfillment of our Smallknot investor rewards continued with a BBQ at the Saucey Sauce Co HQ in Cobble Hill.

(In case you haven’t noticed, we have been pretty busy with dinners and food tours these days!)

To show our thanks for their contributions, we invited a few of our investors and a few of their friends over for an afternoon of good eats.

We had a great mix of old friends and Saucey Sauce first-timers who all came out to enjoy the beautiful weather and some delicious BBQ.

Ken was grill master for the day, and he sure did prepare a feast! The verdict? Not a single morsel left at the end of the afternoon, so I’d say success!

Here are a few pictures from the event, and scroll down to see the recipe for Ken’s Totally Awesome (And Toally Easy) Pork Belly. Try it out at your next BBQ!

As promised, picture and recipe for the pork belly (my favorite dish of the day) below!

Ken’s Totally Awesome (And Totally Easy) Pork Belly

Pork belly, cut into 1/2 inch thick pieces

Spicy Garlic Saucey Sauce

Marinate the pork belly in spicy garlic sauce for about 30 minutes (use enough to coat, or more if you want a real kick!)
BBQ over a charcoal grill or pan fry in a cast iron pan

That’s it! See, I told you it was easy. The Spicy Garlic Sauce does all the hard work – it tenderizes the meat and adds all the flavor. This dish will have you itching for grilling season to come back, but in the mean time your stove top will have to do!

Thanks to all our Sauce Heads for coming out on Sunday and for supporting our quest for a delivery van!

We hope everyone had a great time, we sure did!

Last week the Saucey Sauce team took to the streets and cooked dinner for a few of our Smallknot contributors – in the comfort of their own homes!

Toan and I cooked dinner on Thursday while Ken and Elizabeth took on Saturday’s dinner.

The menus were designed specifically to showcase our sauces and their versatility. Check out what we prepared:

Fried Pot stickers w/ Saucey Sauce dipping sauces (a little homage to Ken and Toan’s Chinese roots)

Light Vietnamese Vermicelli Salad w/ Spicy garlic (see below for the recipe!)

Pan seared chicken breast with Spicy Garlic sauce, anchovy brussels sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes (Thursday); Saucey Sauce Marinated beef flank steak with a garden salad (Saturday)

Variety of mochi (Thursday); Sliced Asian pears and Elizabeth’s homemade chocolate chip cookies (Saturday)

Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?

The food wasn’t the only highlight of the night. We met some incredible Saucey Sauce fans who opened their homes (and really cool kitchens) up to us.

We managed to snap a few pictures while we were busy cooking and chatting – check em out.

We want to say thank you to all our (new) dinner party friends for being such wonderful hosts, and for supporting the Saucey Sauce Co.!

Next time you’re planning a dinner party, be sure to try out our vermicelli salad – it was a big hit at ours. It’s simple to make, tastes absolutely delicious, and will impress your guests for sure!

Vietnamese Vermicelli Noodle Salad

1 package vermicelli noodles

1 bunch (2-3 loose cups) watercress

1-2 medium tomatoes

1/2 red onion

1/4 cup garlic oil (see recipe below)

1 cup Saucey Sauce in your flavor of choice (try it with Fresh Lemon!)

1 large handful of cilantro leaves

Shrimp crackers

Prepare the vermicelli noodles according to the instructions on the packet

Meanwhile, chop your watercress into 1-inch long pieces

Dice the tomatoes and slice your red onion

Once the vermicelli is done, drain and let cool

Using scissors or a knife, cut the vermicelli into short 2-3 inch strands

Add the garlic oil (cooled!) to keep the noodles from sticking together

Assemble the salad by tossing everything into a big bowl and mix generously

Add Fresh Lemon sauce to your liking

Top with cilantro and a handful of crushed shrimp crackers and toss again

Garlic Oil: Simply place 1 cup of neutral flavored oil (penut, grapeseed) into a saucepan with 2 tablespoons of minced garlic and 2 tablespoons of minced onions. Bring to a slow boil and let it stand for about 5 minutes to really infuse the oil (making sure the onions and garlic do not burn). Voila! Tasty garlic oil!

A big shout out to all of the Saucey Sauce fans who came by our booth at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Chile Pepper Fiesta a few weeks ago.

The event was a huge success – and it sure flew by! It was my first time participating in a foodie event as a seller, and not just a hungry customer. A lot of hard work goes into pulling off an even like this, and I can now say that from experience!

We arrived around 9 am to set up our booth. Check it out, isn’t it pretty?

Throughout the day, we had what must have been 1,000 people approach our table and try our sauces. It was amazing! The warm reception and enthusiasm we got was all the fuel I needed to keep dishing out those tasting cups.

My favorite part of the day was watching people fall in love with our product. At first, many approached the table with a confused look on their face, cautiously surveying the cups of veggies unsure of what they should do. After a few encouraging words from the Saucey Sauce team, people gingerly (or not so gingerly) tasted their sample and exclaimed with pleasant surprise, “Wow. That’s really good.”

Right?!

Take a look at the Saucey Sauce team hard at work.

It was definitely a blur, but we sold a ton of bottles, and made some really great new friends.

Thanks to the Botanic Garden for inviting us to be part of the event – it was a hot one!

Last Friday, 4 lucky Sauceheads joined Toan and myself for a food tour of Vietnamese Chinatown here in New York City. What prompted this good fortune? Well, we wanted to show our appreciation for the investments that this awesome group made to our Smallknot campaign back in August.

The itinerary for the night:

6:30 Meet at the Hong Kong Supermarket for a tour of traditional Vietnamese ingredients. If that sounds a bit odd to you (Hong Kong supermarket…Vietnamese ingredients) – it should! While HK and Vietnam have little in common food-wise, here in the city, the HK Supermarket is where we go to find the best selection of Vietnamese goods.

7:00 Head over to Cong Ly for a sampling of some typical Vietnamese dishes, drinks, and desserts.

9:00 Grab a drink at nearby bar Apothéke. No relation to Vietnamese cuisine, but plenty of fun!

Check out the photos below.

Holding class at the HK Supermarket…

Rows upon rows of Vietnamese sauces…

And of course….fish sauce! The orange bottle below comes from the same island (Phú Quốc) that the Saucey Sauce Co. imports its fish sauce from.

After the tour, we headed over to Cong Ly – where Toan often goes to have an authentic Vietnamese meal.

Ready to order!

Look at that spread! A few of the dishes we had were Cha Gio spring rolls, Pho (my favorite!), Banh Hoi grilled beef, pork and shrimp with rice vermicelli, Banh Beo steamed rice cakes…

A popular drink in Vietnam with sweet basil seeds. Or as Toan joked – tiny tadpoles!

And some Chè to end on a sweet note! Chè is a traditional ice dessert popular in Vietnam and other parts of South East Asia. Some variations contain coconut milk, beans, and agar jellies.
